Project Biologist

Location: Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick 

Employment type: 12-month contract

Salary: $42,000 - $52,000

Start Date: Anticipated July 14th, 2025

Job Purpose and Organization Description

ECW Inc. is an environmental not-for-profit organization based in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick. ECW is seeking a dynamic, driven biologist who will conduct field work and help us with a project to support marine protection in the outer Bay of Fundy. This contract position spans one year from the start date, with possibility of extension if further work is funded.

This role is designed to provide project assistance for a project to support marine protection in our region through the collection of environmental and biological data and by fostering community support and understanding. It will include community engagement, literature review, and sampling plan design and execution, among other things. The Project Biologist will also help to design and implement other research, restoration, and outreach projects along the coast and rivers of Charlotte County.

Project Biologists report directly to the Executive Director and are also responsible for supporting the Environment team in other project activities.

Training and onboarding will be provided to the successful candidate. A probationary period of 6 months will be in effect prior to being granted health insurance coverage.  


Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Schedule and implement project activities, such as application for permits, progress reporting, sampling activities, etc.

  • Develop communications materials for engaging stakeholders and to promote community learning

  • Acquire and process data from a variety of partners to determine gaps

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of a sampling methodology to address data gaps

  • Report to funders on project results

  • Support the Environment department in various other project activities and in project development

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology or a related discipline, or a suitable combination of academic and practical experience

  • Preference will be given to applicants with additional skills such as grant writing, community outreach, GIS, data analysis, experience with vessels in a marine setting and/or related certifications , and experience working in adverse conditions

Details:

This is a full time, 12-month contract with opportunity for extension. The position has regular work hours from Monday-Friday at the ECW office, 881 Main St., Blacks Harbour, NB.
