Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries Sector Retraining Initiative

December 2025

This initiative is designed to help folks in our area gain the skills and certifications needed to find meaningful employment in agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries in Charlotte County. We aim to partner with employers to identify the skills and certifications needed for employment in these sectors, and we will subsidize salaries for internships.

  • Employers will receive:

    • Up to 100% reimbursement of intern’s wages and MERCs for 7-week internship placements (maximum of $5,500 per placement; multiple placements available per employer)

    • Financial support for certifying interns

    • Reduced HR and recruitment costs: interns are matched with employers based on baseline requirements supplied by the employer

    • Access to a growing employer network in the region and a bank of local folks seeking jobs

Eligibility: any employers in the food production sector in Charlotte County who is willing to take on an internship is eligible for this HR funding.

Employers are asked to provide a safe and supportive work environment, offer a structured 7-week placement, complete standard reporting requirements for reimbursement, and support participant training and development.

Eastern Charlotte Waterways Inc. will manage recruitment, screening, placement coordination, and participant support throughout the program.
